Some weddings carry the story of more than one country inside them. Isabel and Freskim’s day was exactly that. Born and raised in Switzerland, Isabel’s parents came from Portugal and Freskim’s parents came from Kosovo, and on their wedding day, all of it came together in the most beautiful way. Two family histories, two cultures, one love story, celebrated in the Swiss landscapes that raised them both.
A Ceremony Inside One of the Most Beautiful Churches I Have Ever Photographed
The ceremony took place at the Church of the Sacred Heart in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Église catholique romaine du Sacré-Coeur, a neo-Gothic sanctuary built in the 1920s from carved stone, with a soaring bell tower and stained glass windows that fill the nave with color as the light shifts through the day. I have photographed many churches, but this one stands out. The scale of it, the detail in every arch, the way the light moves across the stone, all of it created a setting that matched the weight and beauty of the moment. Watching Isabel walk down that aisle, inside a building with almost a century of history behind it, was a genuinely humbling thing to witness.
A Celebration at Le Camp, Neuchâtel
After the ceremony, the celebration moved to Le Camp in Neuchâtel, where the mood shifted from reverence to pure joy. This was a wedding full of emotion from start to finish, but also full of laughter, dancing, and the kind of warmth that comes from two families, two cultures, and one shared happiness. Portuguese and Kosovar traditions blended naturally throughout the day, a reminder of how love has a way of bringing different worlds together without losing what makes each of them special.
An Honor to Travel From Portugal to Switzerland
Traveling from Portugal to Switzerland to photograph this wedding was one of the highlights of my year. There is something deeply meaningful about being trusted to document a day that carries so much family history, so much identity, and so much love, all at once. Isabel and Freskim welcomed me into their celebration with open arms, and I left Switzerland with a full memory card and an even fuller heart.
Isabel and Freskim, thank you for allowing me to be part of something so special. It was an honor to tell your story.
